The book that was published during the exhibition bearing the same name presents the life and work of sister Hermina (Justina) Pacek. Sister Hermina was a unique example of a female photographer and nun in Slovenia as well as broader. In the 1950s there were only a few female photographers in Slovenia and Yugoslavia who worked independently, for this was considered a predominantly »male« profession; thus it is even more unusual and praiseworthy that a Sister of Mercy dealt with photography. Our search on the internet failed to reveal any original photographic activities carried out by the Sisters of Mercy, which only adds to the importance of sister Hermina’s work.
