Museum history
The first exhibition, which was displayed in two rooms of the Old Prelacy, was set up under the leadership of Abbot Anton Nadrah in 1983. In 2006 the Slovene Museum of Christianity obtained its status of national importance and its current name. Since then the museum in Stična has greatly enriched the Slovene and international museum offer and is of great importance for the Slovene and interantional cultural space.
Since 2002 the second floor of the museum houses the extensive permanent exhibition entitled History of Christianity in Slovenia. Since 2006 the permanent exhibition Life behind Monastery Walls has been on display on the first floor of the museum. The most recent permanent exhibition The Mysterious world of medieval scribes was set up in 2020.
