Marko Frelih’s book Memory of the Great Lakes: Upon the 180th Anniversary of the Arrival of Missionary Frederic Ireneus Baraga in America is a brief account of Baraga's missionary activities and his estate. Descriptions of Baraga's personal possessions kept at the Slovene Museum of Christianity are published here for the first time, along with several Native American items from the Baraga collection at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum in Ljubljana. Particularly interesting is a colour depiction of Baraga's missionary stations painted in 1849 by Father Otto Skola of Novo Mesto. This drawing is kept at the Franciscan monastery in Ljubljana and is one of the earliest depictions of the Great Lakes area.
This is a dual-language book in both Slovene and English.
