Explore Slovene Museum of Christianity
On Thursday, 20 of June, at 6pm we would like to invite you to join us for the opening of another temporary exhibition.
The exhibition was prepared by dr. Marko Frelih, curator in the Slovene Ethnographical Museum and by Barbara Rezar Grilc from the Kulturno -umetniško društvo Pod Lipo from Adergas.
With an exhibition about the missionary Janez Čebulj (1832–1898), the Slovene Museum of Christianity, continues the review of the history of missionary activities led by the famous missionary Friderik Irenej Baraga (1797–1868) and his colleagues in the Great Lakes region of North America in the 19th century. Although Janez Čebulj belongs to the inner circle of Baraga's colleagues, his work is poorly known to the Slovenian public.
The billboard exhibition shows the historical background of the mission in the Great Lakes area, Čebulj's life and work, and the preservation of the memory of his compatriot in the municipality of Cerklje in Gorenjska. This is the first independent museum exhibition about the missionary who worked hard for the rights of the Chippewa and Menominee peoples in the area west of the Great Lakes. He was fluent in the Chippewa language and worked to preserve the culture of the natives.
The exhibition will be on view untill 6th of October. Do come and see it!
