Wall painting or frescoes are an indispensable decoration, especially in places of worship. Excellent examples of Gothic wall paintings have been preserved in Slovenia (Mrtvaški ples in Hrastovlje, the " Presbytery of Carniola" from Mirna in Dolenjska, the interior of the church in Muljava and on Kamni vrh above Ambrus, the Stična cloistre, etc.). One of the main fresco painters in the 15th century was John of Ljubljana, who created in Carniola mainly on the order of the Cistercian monastery in Stična.
