Explore Slovene Museum of Christianity
The Slovene Museum of Christianity also houses the exceptional archive of the missionary and bishop Irenaeus Frederic Baraga (28. 6. 1797, Mala vas near Dobrnič – 19. 1. 1868, Marquette, Michigan, USA). Second only to the archive kept by the American Baraga Association in Marquette, our unique archive is the largest in Europe. The collection of original Baraga's literary works, objects and correspondence and the library collection of Slovenian emigrant religious literature from USA, Canada, Argentina and Australia was collected and organised by the Salesian priest Karel Ceglar (1912–1999), who was born in Stična and moved to Canada after WWII. Subject to previous arrangement the library archive with approximately 5000 units is available for study purposes.
